Franklin County-funded summer camps are safe and fun, with dozens of different sites all across Central Ohio. Youth attending summer camps will receive academic instruction and support; engage in social-emotional learning; gain hands on experience in Science, Technology, the Arts, Engineering and Mathematics (STEAM) projects; learn skills in leadership development and much more. Camps operate Monday - Friday for approximately 6 hours a day.
Franklin County’s
Ready 2 Earn summer youth employment program will offer youth and young adults ages 14-21 the opportunity to develop the essential skills needed to be successful in the workplace while earning wages to help meet their basic needs.
Ready 2 Earn & IT On Ramp+ (Students Ages 14-15)
Youth ages 14- and 15-years-old have the opportunity to get real-world experience and develop the essential workplace skills while earning wages to help meet their basic needs. This 6-week work-based learning program offered by the Columbus Urban League and Godman Guild Association is designed to let students explore careers in technology, engineering, project management and the arts.
Participants receive training covering essential workplace behaviors such as professionalism, teamwork and critical thinking, along with resume writing tips and interview etiquette. Participants will receive a $1,200 stipend with the chance to earn an additional $300 in incentives.
Young people in 9th and 10th grade can also apply for the IT On Ramp+ Summer Internships. This 4-week program administered by TECH CORPS provides hands-on lessons focused on a variety of computing topics, including app development, game design, software development and Web development. Participants earn $11 - $12 an hour and have the opportunity to earn up to $1,700 for completing the program.
Ready 2 Earn (Students Ages 16-21)
Youth ages 16 and up have the opportunity to participate in pre-apprenticeship training programs or traditional work experiences with government, non-profit and private sector organizations while earning wages of up to $15 per hour.
Youth interested in the health care industry can participate in an internship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital where participants will support clinical and non-clinical staff while also exploring the skills needed to be successful in this career field.
Lead The Way Learning Academy gives youth the chance to explore careers in the construction trades and transportation industries in partnership with Columbus State Community College. Participants in the transportation industry track will complete classroom training to gain the knowledge required to safely operate a commercial vehicle. Participants who successfully complete the training will be eligible to take the written and skills tests needed to attain a CDL Class B license.
